Here's What We Agreed On in 2008

This plan had a huge response and integration of community voice including "did we get it right' sessions after plan drafted

How did we agree we would assess success?

How did we agree we would assess success?

This report would be presented to Council annually

and now... the 'Comprehensive' Sustainability Plan...

What happened to our good intentions?

"They'll forget..."

The  2008  Sustainable Northampton Plan was re-written by our former Planning Director as the 2024  Comprehensive Sustainability Plan (see link above). It replaces the one we, as a city in 2008 all agreed on as a guide to our future, a real People's Strategic Plan, one we said would be publically evaluated annually.  This 2024 'comprehensive' plan that includes additional reports (the historic plan was submitted and included and ignored)  has, in essence,  gutted voice and shared goals. It  is a very different document. How did this stuff get in there?  Whose voice? Are we okay with that? At what point do our good intentions as a community that we thought laid the foundation to how we saw our city evolve, become defused and forgotten only to resurface when obvious conflicts in what we believe as a community arise?  Transparency, honesty and integrity are foundational to government.  We get really stuck without them.
